Casa de los Balcones: Plan Your Visit

Casa de los Balcones is located at Calle San Francisco, 3, 38300 La Orotava, Santa Cruz de Tenerife, in the heart of La Orotava's historic quarter. Free on-site parking is available for anyone arriving by car.

By Car: La Orotava sits just off the TF-5 motorway along Tenerife's north coast. From Santa Cruz de Tenerife, it's about 35 kilometers, roughly 23 minutes. From Tenerife North Airport, it's a short 25-kilometer trip, typically 20 minutes. From Tenerife South Airport, expect a longer haul of around 90 kilometers, close to an hour, since the route runs most of the length of the island. From Puerto de la Cruz, it's only about 5 kilometers, a 10 to 15 minute drive.

By Bus: Tenerife's public bus network, TITSA, connects La Orotava to most of the island. From Santa Cruz de Tenerife and La Laguna, lines 101, 107, and 108 run directly to La Orotava's bus station. From Puerto de la Cruz, lines 350, 352, and 353 make the short hop to La Orotava. From Tenerife North Airport, lines 101, 107, or 108 reach La Orotava in about 20 minutes. There's no direct bus from Tenerife South Airport — the usual route is a transfer through Puerto de la Cruz on line 343. From La Orotava's bus station, Casa de los Balcones is a short walk into the historic centre.

On Foot: Casa de los Balcones sits inside La Orotava's compact, pedestrian-friendly old town, so once you're there, most other historic sights are within easy walking distance.

By Taxi or Rideshare: Taxis are readily available from both Tenerife airports and from Puerto de la Cruz and Santa Cruz, and are usually the fastest door-to-door option if you'd rather skip bus transfers.

A self-guided audio tour is available at reception, offered in multiple languages, and takes around 50 minutes to cover the full visit. Restrooms are free to use for anyone who has purchased admission, and free on-site parking is available for visitors arriving by car.

WiFi is available once you've paid for entry; ask staff for the password after you're inside. There's no luggage storage on site, so it's best to arrive without bags or suitcases.

The ground floor of the house, along with the interior patio and the wine press (lagar) at the back of it, is accessible to visitors with reduced mobility.

The upper floor, where most of the furnished museum rooms are located, is reached by a narrow, original solid-wood spiral staircase, which is not wheelchair accessible. This means a full top-to-bottom visit isn't possible for wheelchair users, though the ground-level areas still offer a meaningful sense of the house's architecture and history.

If mobility is a concern, it's worth contacting the venue directly beforehand to confirm what a ground-floor-only visit includes.

The on-site shop is organized into several categories: gastronomy, textiles, Canarian crafts, a "Boutique del Mago" for traditional Canarian costume pieces, and natural cosmetics. Highlights include hand-embroidered silk shawls, traditional costume accessories, ceramic reproductions, and jewelry made from olivine and obsidian, two volcanic stones found in Tenerife and Lanzarote.

Traditional costumes at the Boutique del Mago are sold, not rented. Since most items are handmade, immediate availability isn't guaranteed, and orders shipped outside the Canary Islands may be subject to additional customs charges.
